Flame proving is an electrical measurement

The sensor in the burner path is not a temperature device. A weak signal comes from a coated sensor, a poor ground, a cracked porcelain, damaged wiring, misaligned burners or an incorrect combustion picture. Running rich at altitude wears out ignition parts

Thin air is the local complication. Manufacturers require the input to come down as elevation rises, and they are specific about how.
